Media Upskilling Programme
At present there is a lack of Muslim representation within the mainstream media domain. For those who have never met a Muslim person before, the information received from media outlets will shape their ideas regarding Muslim people.
With a number of successful Muslim professionals throughout ConsortiuM networks, ConsortiuM is the ideal platform to encourage such professionals to voice their opinion on a range of issues relating to their profession or field of expertise.
For example, this may be in the form of a:
- > Doctor talking about the latest statistics on childhood obesity.
- > Lawyer talking about the implications for the English legal system of further devolution from Parliament to the Scottish and Welsh assemblies etc.
- > An a engineer writing an article in The Times about the complex construction issues around the new HS2 railway line.
- > An entrepreneur being interviewed about the impact of Brexit on their business sector.
and these professionals happen to be Muslim.
In the current times of Islamophobia, it is prudent that successful Muslim professionals are seen as such. It is important for the public to recognise their local Muslim communities contribution, rather than remaining underrated, as this will help with community cohesion.
ConsortiuM aims through this programme to get capable Muslim professionals to become regular speakers or writers about topics related to their profession in the mainstream media.
